The PS Vita 2000 and PS TV models are essentially identical to the original PS Vita 1000 in terms of software. All steps which say “PS Vita” also apply to other models unless otherwise specified. If you have a PS Vita 1000, you must also have an official Sony memory card (of any size) to follow this guide.
Jul 01, 2018 h-encore is the hack that TheFlow has been promising for Firmware 3.65-3.68 which allows you to run HENkaku/taiHEN on them. What is Homebrew?
Homebrew usually refers to software that is not authorized by Sony. It allows you to run homebrew games, tools like save editing and backup, and emulators for various older systems.
In many cases, running homebrew on your device is 100% free using just the system browser.
Ps Vita 3.73 Hack GuideWhat is Custom Firmware?
Custom Firmware (“CFW”) enables you to use more advanced hacks that userland homebrew can’t easily do, in addition to anything homebrew can do. Essentially all homebrew solutions on the PS Vita (TV) include a CFW of some kind.
For information on how custom firmware works, please see this post by Yifan Lu.
What does this guide install?
This guide has the end goal of taking a completely unmodified PS Vita (TV) from stock firmware to custom firmware.
The best CFW solution currently available, Ensō, allows for convenient homebrew access on your device by running an exploit at boot-time to setup the homebrew environment. It is more convenient than other CFW solutions (such as HENkaku or h-encore) as it does not require you to trigger an exploit on your device after every reboot manually.
Ensō is available on all devices with firmware version 3.65 or below, while higher firmware version devices can use h-encore to achieve a similar (if less convenient) result.
What can I do with Custom Firmware?
What do I need to know before starting?

This guide will show you how to install the HENkaku exploit by Team molecule on your PS Vita. HENkaku is the first “jailbreak” for the PlayStation Vita. This will unlock your PS Vita's potential, enabling you to install homebrew apps for many new features and capabilities. The HENkaku exploit itself will install the HENkaku Settings menu that allows you to install homebrew as well as other cool options. The HENkaku web exploit is compatible with firmware 3.60 only but has since been ported to higher firmwares using different methods; 3.60 is considered the ‘golden firmware' for the PS Vita with the most compatibility with homebrew and plugins and it allows for the persistent custom firmware hack Ensō. Ensō by yifanlu is a plugin that allows the HENkaku exploit to stay active permanently, eliminating the need to run the exploit every time your PS Vita reboots. You will also install VitaShell by TheFlow, it is the primary filesystem explorer for PS Vita with various functions such as FTP and USB file transfer, a simple text editor and mounting your game card as a USB device for easy game dumping.

PlayStation Vita on Firmware 3.60
Use the h-encore exploit if you are between firmware 3.65 and 3.68, or use the h-encore² exploit if you are on 3.69 or higher. Once you have an active custom firmware, you can downgrade your firmware back to 3.60 with Modoru
If your Vita prompts you about an update, power your off then turn it on and check again.
PS Vita 1000 (Fat) Models require an official Sony Memory Card to install homebrew applications.
